    Stillness seems to hide from me the older I get.  Maybe you can relate, friend. Grabbing hold of moments of quiet seems to be few and far between amidst the craziness of adult life.  As the new year approached, it became apparent that my husband and I were entering into a transitional season. We hear the Lord calling us out of specific places to position us in new ones. What ‘why’ questions are you carrying with you What ‘why’ questions are you carrying with you today, friend? 

Do they sound something like this? 

𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘪𝘴 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘩𝘢𝘱𝘱𝘦𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨?
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘩𝘪𝘴, 𝘓𝘰𝘳𝘥?
𝘞𝘩𝘺 𝘤𝘢𝘯'𝘵 𝘪𝘵 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘣𝘦 𝘧𝘪𝘹𝘦𝘥?

I found myself asking those same questions earlier this week when my morning was met with an unexpected & unwanted circumstance. 

Through that experience, God taught me a few things: 

1. It’s ok to have ‘why’ questions, because God wants us to come to Him with everything weighing on our hearts

2. When I allow my ‘why’ questions to point to a ‘Who’, I give myself room to watch God work 

The Israelites in Exodus also had ‘why’ questions, and when they allowed their questions to point to a ‘Who’, they got to witness the mighty power of the loving God who had set them free. 

God wants to show us that we don’t have to be strong enough on our own. 

He wants to show us that when we humble ourselves and become honest about our limitations, He meets those limitations with His presence. 

This is a life lesson I think we can all benefit from, which is why I wrote about it in this week’s blog 🤍

I often think, when things don't go according to plan, our initial reaction after asking why, is to pull ourselves up by our bootstraps and do whatever we can to fix the situation on our own. 

But God doesn't require that of us, friend. 

He just requires us to humble ourselves and be honest about our limitations, so that He can meet those limitations with His presence. 

He beckons us to reach for Him when our mornings get turned upside down.

When that cancer diagnosis slaps you so hard in the face that you can hardly breathe. 

When your marriage is falling apart and your heart is breaking in two. 

When you lose a loved one and you’re sure the sorrow has no end.

When your kids are driving you insane, and you feel like you're drowning in the sea of chaos that is motherhood. 

When life happens, and circumstances don't go the way we expected, God is waiting to meet us there. He's waiting to open our eyes to the lessons He has for us in that season and most of all…

He's using these unexpected circumstances to show us that He is faithful and true, that His love never fails and that He truly provides exactly what we need moment by moment.

“Meanwhile, the moment we get tired in the waiting, God’s Spirit is right alongside helping us along. If we don’t know how or what to pray, it doesn’t matter. He does our praying in and for us, making prayer out of our wordless sighs, our aching groans. 

He knows us far better than we know ourselves, knows our pregnant condition, and keeps us present before God. That’s why we can be so sure that every detail in our lives of love for God is worked into something good.”

Rest tonight, friend, knowing that God is right alongside you in this season, working together all things for His glory and your good. 

You are not behind, you have not missed out, you are right where you are supposed to be. 

Even in the waiting. 
Even in the uncertainty. 
Even in the questioning 
and wandering. 

Cease your striving and just simply “be”. 

Be still. 
Be held. 
Be loved. 

He’s working on your behalf, and He can be trusted. Surrender the control and rest. 

Peace is in this place of quiet, so don’t force your voice, just extend your hands and receive Him.

A word & a simple prayer for those feeling anxious A word & a simple prayer for those feeling anxious or unsettled today:

“Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things.

Father, I surrender my worries and desire for control and instead choose to receive all that you have for me today.

You may be more familiar with the Scripture translated as, “Be still and know that I am God.” 

I love The Passion Translation because it gives such a clear depiction of the benefit of stillness. 

Be silent and stop your striving, and you will see that I am God. 

Be still, and you will see the presence of God with you. 

As I’ve been practicing this daily rhythm of stillness through the Daily Still Podcast, I’m beginning to realize what God wants me to receive. 

He wants me to receive Him and accept that this season of life is out of my control but that He will give me everything I need to face each moment. 

He is giving me Himself, every moment of the day, if I would only stop to pause and listen for His voice.

@thedailystill podcast today was all about turning back to the Lord. One of the questions presented was,

“In what areas of your life do you feel distant from God?”

Truth be told, even though I’m the middle of a season of change and transition, God doesn’t feel distant. I know He’s walking with me through the anxiety and the uncertainty. 

But then I realized how often I turn away from Him in small ways throughout each day. 

When I allow my “how” to become bigger than my “Who”.

When the “what if” becomes louder than the “I Am”.

When I choose to let my anxiety run rampant rather than choosing to turn to His peace. 

When I allow my heart to become hardened as I try to take back the control I feel like belongs to me. 

When I snap at my husband because I think carrying my weaknesses alone makes me stronger. 

In all of these ways, I turn away from Him and into myself. 

And every single time, I hear Him gently knocking on the door of my heart, beckoning me to turn back to Him. 

“Yet the Lord longs to be gracious to you; therefore He will rise up to show you compassion. For the Lord is a God of justice. Blessed are all who wait for Him!”

Isaiah 30:18

He longs for me to turn back to Him, and He longs for you to turn back to Him too, friend. 

His grace truly is sufficient, and you are given it each and every moment. 

He meets you in the chaos, in the turning, and in the wandering. 

Be at peace with knowing that it’s never too late, and you’re never too far gone, to turn back to the arms of the Father.

Over on the blog today, I share with you what the Lord has been speaking to me as I’ve chosen to integrate a new daily rhythm of seeking out His presence through moments of stillness. Checkout this little excerpt below: 

“Practicing stillness and getting silent before Jesus helps me behold Him in the everyday mundane and in the chaos of changing seasons. 

Pausing for a single moment helps me center my mind, soul, and spirit back on Him and reminds me that He is the One who directs my steps. My anxiety is replaced by His peace and the truth about who He is and who I am in Him when I remember to seek out quiet moments of still surrender. 

Because that is ultimately what this new rhythm of daily stillness is teaching me, that He has so much to give if I would only make room to receive.”

Lord, help me be a noticer of your presence today. 

I ask that throughout these ordinary moments in this ordinary day, you would help me behold more of you. 

I know that in noticing your presence with me, I unwrap the gift of joy. I am able and ready to receive what you have for me today when I choose to pause and look for more of you. 

Thank you for being with me always, and for providing everything I need moment by moment. 

I am choosing today to grab hold of joy even amidst the chaos of not knowing what comes next.

You were not created or called by God to do it all You were not created or called by God to do it all. If you were, there would be no need for Christ and no room for His grace. 

It is more than ok to set boundaries in your life with your friends, social media, your job, your family and anything or anyone that might be sucking the life from you. 

Boundaries are the gateway to creating the life that God calls you to. 

God invites you to share your whole heart with Him, laying everything and everyone that gives you anxiety before His feet. 

Tell Him every detail of your life, and as you do, His wonderful peace that transcends human understanding will guide you (Philippians 4:6-7). 

As you present these requests to God, praying and giving thanks to Him, He will be faithful in revealing what He is requiring of you in this season. 

The more at peace you become with not pleasing everyone around you, or trying to be everything for everyone, the more time you have to focus on the things in your life that God is calling you to. 

The more time you spend focusing on what God is calling you to, and less time on what others may be expecting of you, the more rested and at peace you will become. 

Boundaries create space for God’s voice to be heard and your soul to find rest ✨

How would you define ‘love’? Is it physical? How would you define ‘love’? 

Is it physical? Emotional? Circumstantial? 

I remember sitting down with a friend a couple of years ago and she was telling me how she met her husband. I asked, somewhat lightheartedly, if after all these years, the same spark was still in their marriage now as it was when they first met. 

She looked right at me and said, “It’s not a matter of just feeling; I made a commitment to love this man until death do us part.”

A commitment. 

A choice. 

Not merely a feeling or a mood.

Not a toy to be traded in for something new when one gets bored or the journey gets difficult. 

Love is something that has to be sought after and pursued, and it’s something, I’ve learned, that you have to keep choosing even when the feelings might fail. 

It’s meant to be fought for, protected, cherished and honored. 

Love isn’t merely a feeling, it’s a commitment. 

Just as the Lord continually loves and pursues us, we were created to mirror His heart and show the world what true, selfless, sacrificial love looks like. 

I believe it looks like stewarding well the season of life we are in, and listening to the voice of the Lord on how to best love the people He puts in front of us. 

I think it looks like focusing on becoming more like Him so others see His goodness in the light of our eyes. 

I think it looks like contentment with what we’ve been given so gratitude can grow and envy can die. 

I believe love looks like encouraging, including, and honoring those around us and inviting them to sit at His table with us. 

It looks like listening before reacting and learning before teaching. 

Love is a commitment to reach for the heart of Jesus so we have His heart for people. 

Happy Valentine’s Day, my friends. I pray you remember today how irrevocably and unconditionally you are loved by your Heavenly Father. 

And I pray today you would live in His love so you can love others well.

Religion says that I have to look, act and be a ce Religion says that I have to look, act and be a certain way to be accepted, loved, and worthy. 

Religion says that to be of value, I have to follow a set of rules, and they cannot be bent or broken. 

Religion says that God only shows up within the parameters of the box I put Him in. 

But relationship says that I am called to walk in the freedom that Christ gave me through the sacrifice of His life. 

Relationship says that I am chosen, loved, redeemed, and worthy - not because of anything I have done or could do - but because I am covered in grace, God’s grace, that runs deeper than the sin that seeks to entangle me. 

Relationship calls me to step outside of my box and follow where God leads. 

To take it one step further and sort this out in my head, I decided to look up the definitions of ‘religion’ and ‘relationship.’

Religion: a particular system of faith and worship, a pursuit or interest to which someone ascribes supreme importance.

Relationship: the way in which two or more concepts, objects, or people are connected, or the state of being connected.

Do you see the difference, friend?

Religion demands that I follow a system, while relationship invites me to a deeper connection with my Savior.

I sat with my planner open tonight, scheduling out my week, and wrote this verse at the bottom of the page.

There’s an abundance of grace waiting for us this week, friend. So let’s head into Monday knowing that the week won’t be perfect and not everything will go according to plan...

It might get messy and maybe a little stressful at times...

But there’s grace, His grace, waiting to give us strength and guide us through. 

We don’t have to get it right every time, and we don’t have to be in control of everything, because we serve a God who turns every weakness into an opportunity to display His glory. 

Rest in that truth this week, friend, rest in His grace.

What does it look like to live a life that seeks t What does it look like to live a life that seeks to behold the presence of God? To see Him and worship Him and do life with Him?

As I’ve found myself wrestling with these thoughts, I’ve been challenged recently by this truth:

God’s presence isn’t just present when I’m aching and in the valley of death or when I’m on the mountaintop singing for joy and raising my hands in victory. 

He isn’t just present during the miracles and the moments when my heart is breaking in two. He isn’t only present in my devotional time or when I’m worshipping at Church on Sunday morning. 

His presence is always with me. He is accessible every moment of my day. 

God requires me to look for Him in the in-between moments of an ordinary day. 

And I believe the first step in beholding more of God in my everyday mundane moments is by abandoning religion and stepping into relationship.

The Lord has been teaching me that in order to behold Him in the everyday mundane moments of my life, I have to surrender religion and enter into relationship. 

God aches for a personal, intimate connection with His people. And when we choose to step outside the parameters of the box we’ve put Him in, we are able to fully see who He truly is.

God is so good and knows exactly what I need when God is so good and knows exactly what I need when I need it. 

My husband and I are slowly entering into a transitional season, and my mind and heart have felt so distracted and chaotic lately. 

So when I heard the Lord calling me to start the week by picking my Seasons of Soap study back up, I knew He was going to speak. 

SOAP is an acronym created by @horacioprinting that is designed to engage you with scripture in your devotional time. 

Scripture. 
Observation.
Application.
Prayer.

My scripture passage on Monday just happened to be Psalm 37:1-9. 

The words from verse 7 leapt off the page and landed right into my heavy heart, 

“Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him.”

Be still 🖤

I wanted to share with you what I wrote down in the application section of my Soap study, and how the Lord spoke to me through Psalm 37:1-9.

“You’re calling me to focus on where You have me right now. I need to be careful about getting distracted by comparison or worry about what others may be doing. When I choose to delight myself in You, Lord, I find peace and joy. You are the One who will lead me to the desires you’ve placed within my heart if I just keep my eyes fixed on you. I commit my plans to you, Father, and trust that You will advocate on my behalf. You always fight for me, I never have to prove myself. You are calling me to be still and wait on Your timing. You go before me, God. My hope is in You, alone.”

I wanted to encourage you with that word today, in case you were feeling a little worn out and distracted too. 

Be still, friend, and delight yourself in the Lord and look for the blessings He has for you right now, in this season. 

Stop racing ahead, but find joy in the journey of becoming.
