Joy & Amazon Prime.

You guys, if I had to name three things in this world that would be incredibly difficult (almost entirely impossible to the point of slow, agonizing death) to live without, they would be listed in the following order:

  1. Jesus, DUH
  2. My husbandcoffeemypupstjmaxxmascaraskincarebooksjournals
  3. Amazon

This week I feel like bringing a little laughter to your life and maybe some randomness laced with joy. So, if you feel like it, drop your top three in the comment box below and keep reading for some lighthearted fun!

I’ve been watching my husband turn our little yellow house into a demolition zone. Bless his heart, and my sanity, he just can’t keep himself busy enough. It’s one home project after another and the busier he gets, the messier our home becomes, and the twitchier my eye gets. My right eye to be weirdly specific. I’m talking about a nervous, breaching on the edge of fury, kind of twitch; the kind that suddenly comes on after you mop the kitchen floor and then watch your husband walk all over it with his muddy, dusty shoes. Again, I will say, bless his heart.

So this week, I’m here to bring you some lighthearted laughter and hopefully a little bit of a smile during this season filled with funky uncertainties, and the ragingly loud and annoying opinions you see on the internet about this current pandemic. Was that sassy? Yes, it was, and it’s because I’m sassy and your girl has reached her limit this week! Just keeping it real; send prayers and blessings of grace and patience, please.

To help keep my eyes off of the mess that my husband has so graciously created (disclaimer: I’m for real thankful for him and his handiness), I’ve been Amazon Prime shopping. I’ve been masking, the facial kind. I’ve been reading and resting amidst the noise. Sisters, last week I came to you with three practical tips that have been helping me rest amidst this chaos. So, in the name of good fun this week, I wanted to share with you five things laying around the house that have brought me some joy and helped my soul rest during this quarantine. The really great news? You can find them ALL on Amazon Prime!

So here’s how this is going to work: I’m going to list five products from Amazon that I am currently using and LOVING, and I’m going to attach my Amazon affiliate hyperlink in the title of the item listed just in case you decide you want to splurge and bring yourself a little self-care joy this week. Disclaimer, because I always want to keep it real with you guys, if you decide to purchase the item using my link, I will earn a small commission off of that sale. If you are not cool with that, I totally respect your opinion and you definitely don’t have to use my link!

Now that we’ve laid out the ground rules… let’s get shopping.

  1. “Worthy & Loved” Jenessa Wait Journal

Friends, journaling is essential for me, but especially when life gets too hard for words spoken aloud. So, at the end of February when I came to another sad end to yet another well-used journal…I went straight to Amazon to find another! Jenessa Wait is so talented in her lettering and beautiful design, and her journals are amazingly gorgeous. I love the message on the front, Worthy & Loved, because every time I open it, it reminds me that I am worthy and loved because I am His. There are a number of other designs available, so check them out if you are in the market for a new journal (or if you just want to add another one to your collection because journals are life).

  1. Chlorophyll Face Mask by Cocokind

I am by no means a skincare expert, just an avid user, and an obsessive experimenter. I am only here to share with you what has worked for me, in hopes that it might work for you too! I started using Cocokind products two years ago because of its clean ingredients and gentle products. I love the brand, and their Chlorophyll face mask is my absolute favorite! It comes in powder form in the cutest little glass jar, and you can mix it with water, greek yogurt, honey… anything that fits your skincare needs at the moment. It makes my face glow and I thank Jesus for it every time I use it! And so does my skin.

  1. Swan Creek Candles (the BEST candles you will ever smell) in the Gingerbread scent

Back in my Ohio hometown, I grew up getting my hair done at Salon361 where I was introduced to the most delicious smelling candles. They are soy-based candles, so they are slightly better and a little more nontoxic than your regular candle (let’s count how many times I can say the word “candle’)… Which is a plus! Your house will smell like a bakery, but not in an “I’m getting a migraine” sort of way. It’s warm, inviting, and just adds to my cozy vibe that I aim for on the daily. They’re stinking expensive Sister, but if you’re looking for a good candle with a scent that lasts until that 24oz of soy poured wax is completely gone… this is it.

  1. New Morning Mercies Devotional by Paul David Tripp

When it comes to my devotional time I am a Jesus Calling girl through and through. But this quarantine has me wanting to try new things… right along with this blog post… so when a friend posted this devotional book on her Instagram story, I had to give it a try! If you’re like me, and you’re familiar with the writing style of your Jesus Calling devotional, this will be a change of pace, but in the best way. It’s a daily devotional that will last you all year round, each entry being a page long with some scripture study at the end. Paul David Tripp gives such sound biblical truth, and he always points back to the grace of Jesus and the wild love that our Heavenly Father has for us. Each time I walk away from these pages of wisdom, I am challenged and wrapped in grace alI at once.

  1. The Next Right Thing by Emily P. Freeman

Ok, so I was going to save this recommendation for June’s Book of the Month post, but it is so good and filled with such truth for the season that we’re all experiencing, that I couldn’t help myself. The chapters are short and sweet with a prayer at the end, and a little assignment to get you headed in the direction of peaceful decision making. At the end of each sentence, you will feel like you want to be Emily’s best friend. She encourages you in such a way that brings the kind of relief that only comes from your BFF telling you to create some space for your soul to breathe and quit agonizing over getting it right all the time. She intermingles her own personal experience of making difficult decisions, amidst this cluttered and chaotic life, with the loving voice of Jesus. It’s a book that makes your soul feel lighter as she takes the pressure off of you and puts it into the hands of your Maker. How incredibly perfect for this pandemic season! If you are struggling with inconsistencies and decision making right now, I would totally grab this book!

Well, friends, there you have it! My current top five Amazon Prime items that have helped bring my soul some rest and a smile to my face in the middle of this constantly shifting season. I know we went off in a different direction this week, but the Lord laid it on my heart to give you all something a little more lighthearted and fun, and I wasn’t about to argue! This was honestly so fun to write, so I pray it brought you as much joy reading it as it did me writing it! I know that none of these things can bring you the true joy that only Jesus can give, but even the Father gives tangible joy in the form of Amazon Prime gifts. I am a wholehearted believer in that.

I’m praying the peace of His presence over you all this week as you seek to rest in Him. Happy shopping and happy resting! And don’t forget to drop in the comment box below your top three “can’t live withouts” 🙂

Nehemiah said, “Go and enjoy choice food and sweet drinks, and send some to those who have nothing prepared. This day is holy to our Lord. Do not grieve, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” – Nehemiah 8:10

I'm a 25 year old, Enneagram 8, coffee obsessed, Jesus loving girl with an amazing husband of four years and two very cute (but very ornery) furbabies. I strive to live a life governed by grace with a deep understanding of how crazy beautiful, hard, and messy life can be. My prayer is that each time you visit The Broken Daughter, you will walk away with the truth of how Jesus sees you; beautifully broken, radically redeemed & fiercely loved.
